body-swapping: person defined in terms of utterances expressive of memories of past experiences, movements partly constituted that persons actions and expressive of their character etc.

an observer would be overwhelmingly struck by As bodys B-ness

there are issues about how two radically different bodies new occupants might adjust

also, rather than transferring brains (Shoemaker), Williams proposes an intermediary store for the information from As brain while Bs brain is reconstituted to hold(???) it

A + B are willing experimenters

they are asked to choose selfishly whether the A-body-person or the B-body-person will be given $100,000 and the other tortured

if they both choose that the opposing body person will get the money, then presumably one of them will feel unfairly treated because the experimenter ignored their instructions and the other will fell pleased and smug at his own wisdom if that happens then that seems to show that to care about what happens to me in the future is not necessarily to care about my body (i.e. the one befor ethe experiment), and that our minds and bodies are really distinct (Descartes)

he considers that if they both coose that their current (old) body would get the $100,000, one would feel that his request had been granted but wish it hadn't, while the other will feel

more to come???
